Louis Sokoloff Papers 1946-2004

Dr. Louis Sokoloff is a neurochemical researcher who conducted and directed research projects at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) for 50 years, most of that time as Chief of the Section (later Laboratory) of Cerebral Metabolism. His increasingly specific and comprehensive methods of evaluating cerebral blood flow and cerebral metabolism led directly to development of positron-emission tomography (PET). His papers contain voluminous documentation of experiments in the forms of data and autoradiographs. Smaller portions of the collection represent other facets of his professional career through correspondence, information about conferences and meetings attended, and articles, lectures and speeches produced by Dr. Sokoloff over a fifty-year period.
